Owner's words
After several sunny vintages, 2024 saw a return to the rainy, cool and slow-to-ripen “old-style” vintages, requiring constant precision and rapid responses from the winegrowers. The generally overcast spring led to an unprecedented threat of downy mildew, while at the same time slowing down the development of the vines, which had become waterlogged. Our teams were fully mobilised as we made every possible effort to protect the vines, taking advantage of the few windows of opportunity that Mother Nature was kind enough to grant us. Such conditions almost made us forget the small miracle that took place over the summer. From mid-June, the weather brightened, drying out the soil and allowing the vines to continue their cycle. July and August were hot and sunny, favouring ripening and ensuring a solid potential for quality. Admittedly, the pre-harvest rain tempered our enthusiasm, but a harvest carried out with responsiveness and precision - requiring strategic choices of harvest dates for each plot and meticulous sorting - enabled us to express the best of the vintage. Cool temperatures in October curbed botrytis, enabling the harvests to be completed at a relaxed place. Precision is the best word to characterise the wines. 2024 has produced sleek wines with a perfect balance between moderate alcohol, refreshing acidity and svelte, silky tannins, enhanced by exceptionally pure fruit. The great Cabernet Sauvignon vines on the property's historic terroir shine with their balance between power and delicacy, once again proving their capacity for excellence whatever the conditions. Soft Merlot with crisp fruit and a touch of Petit Verdot enrich the blend. The result of this quest for precision is a harmonious, polished wine with a purity and elegance that mark a return to the timeless classicism of the great Bordeaux wines. A vintage with a great deal of charm that is sure to delight wine enthusiasts throughout its evolution.
